Mariana Mitic is a Brazilian half-Serbian visual artist, producer, curator, poet, sculptor, writer, and performer. She actually lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and studies Visual arts at Brazilian's School of Fine Arts, at Rio de Janeiro's Federal University.

How are we discarding our garbage? What seems to be simple to melt and discard, as paint, is tough and block the manhole, disturbing the environment's balance, holding back water and consequently provoking floods, which is a very common scenario in Rio de Janeiro. what is the limit between art and garbage? When the artwork become toxic, how do we discard art? Which is the best way to recycle artistic products, to the artistic speech not become hypocritical? This ready-made sculpture is not made to give answers, but to evoke questions.

Due to the banal world of aggressive ego and disposable corpses and minds, the artist proposes an x-ray to the hostile, stiff, not-human being facing the world’s catastrophes, the individualism in our daily routine, the lack of empathy with others and the planet. Therefore, she made a dress made of plastic, expressing how disposable our clothing is, our appearance’s world, how even our corpses are being despised facing the common algorithm, we worry so much about our personalities and its impacts on our social bubbles, and keep ignoring the environment scenario and the consequences of our acts.

The artist wears a dress made of plastic bags and walks around the place with an arrogant aspect, as the face of materialism is, a tough and hostile countenance. She performs some kind of lonely-parade.

The act consists of the artist interacting with an dark oil slop ( moisturizing cream + oil shoyo + black china ink) while holds two dead fish, and performs a certain “dance macabre”, nearly to the floor, embracing fish movements.
On October 2019, there were giant oil slops on the middle of Atlantic Ocean, on the coast of Brazil, due to a big oil ship’s leak. President Jair Bolsonaro’s, on an ironical, not-serious, irresponsible answer about what should Brazil do in face of all those catastrophes, just said “There’s no Problem, The fish deflects the oil on the ocean”. The artist proposes an ironic view over the joke-politics and joke-speech which surround us nowadays, as a spectacle society receives information, as a comedy program. Facing the absurd, she expresses herself in the same ridiculous way, how funny could the death of millions of see animals be, and how did the society get at this point?

This work dialogues with the raising fascism in Brazil and the world, the central figure is Jair Messias Bolsonaro, actual president from Brazil. His unprepared government, bounded to his agreements with the agribusiness are leading Brazil to a ambiental and socio-economic colapse, and there are still a great amout of people who embraces him, as pictured with the guys wearing expanded reality glasses, the saying above them is "everything is good, even better than before". Not only that, we're facing a total boycot and neglect on the artistic sphere, the government is becoming anti-artistic, censoring artists's works.

Due to the neglect on the environmental questions on 2019, the artist manifests the well-known patriotic symbols leaking through the drain of forgetfulness and abandon, the drain of neglect and blindness, of apathy, of the aggressive enraged political parties on Brazil, on the Brazilian hymn it is said:" Oh, beautiful homeland, so gentle", we are sweeping its resources so fast, on the oposite of a gentle way, as the destruction of amazon its taking course.

Are we being conscient about the content of social media? "Lixúria" is a portrait of that. Advertisment full of visual pollution, and we do still click on the attractive links. How could the artist mobilize and claim for attention on social media, where people want to see pleasure and confortable content? That's the purpose of this piece. The beautiful fetishized-young-venus-body around piles of trash, accumulated, not-aesthetic, trash. We can't just get rid of our trash, and there it is, right on the first page of the instagram's profile @mmmmitic.
